{"id":1414,"date":"2016-09-02T16:19:58","date_gmt":"2016-09-02T21:19:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.innersecurity.com\/?page_id=1414"},"modified":"2016-12-07T16:07:19","modified_gmt":"2016-12-07T22:07:19","slug":"replacing-your-alarm-control-battery","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.innersecurity.com\/?page_id=1414","title":{"rendered":"Replacing Your Alarm Control Battery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While not all alarm panels look like the picture below, the battery replacement instructions are pretty much the same.\u00a0 Open the alarm panel and you will see the battery located on the bottom of the enclosure.<\/p>\n<p>Removing the old battery:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\u00a0Remove the <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">RED<\/span> <\/strong>wire from the <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">RED<\/span> <\/strong>terminal.\u00a0 You may need to wiggle the terminal it to remove it from the battery.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the <strong>BLACK<\/strong> wire from the <strong>BLACK<\/strong> terminal.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If there is acid or corrosion on the battery terminal or battery connector, a replacement battery connector might be necessary.\u00a0 (not common)<\/p>\n<p>Installing the new battery.\u00a0 If you connect the battery backwards, you could blow the fuse or destroy the alarm panel.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Connect the <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">RED<\/span> <\/strong>wire to the <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">RED<\/span> <\/strong>terminal.<\/li>\n<li>Before connecting the <strong>BLACK<\/strong> wire to the battery, check once more to ensure that you connected the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>RED<\/strong> <\/span>wire to the <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">RED<\/span> <\/strong>terminal.<\/li>\n<li>When you&#8217;re <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>SURE <\/strong><\/span>that <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">RED<\/span> <\/strong>is connected to <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>RED<\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">, connect the <strong>BLACK <\/strong>wire to the <strong>BLACK <\/strong>terminal.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The battery in this picture is a 12 volt 4 amp hour battery (12V4AH), but 12 volt 7 amp hour batteries (12V7AH) are also common (bottom picture).\u00a0 The 12V7AH battery will keep your alarm system operational longer if there is an extended power outage.\u00a0 If there is room, it would be ok to upgrade to the bigger battery.<\/p>\n<p>When reconnecting to the new battery, the battery connectors should fit snugly on the battery terminals.\u00a0 If they are loose, remove the connector from the battery and squeeze the connector (gently!) with a pair of pliers and reconnect.\u00a0 You will be squeezing the plastic insulator of the connector which will in turn squeeze the part that makes contact with the battery.\u00a0 If you squeeze it too tightly, you will not be able to reconnect it to the battery.<\/p>\n<h4>Alarm control panel with a 12V4AH battery<\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" title=\"Vista-Panel.png\" src=\"https:\/\/www.innersecurity.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Vista-Panel.png\" alt=\"Vista-Panel.png\" width=\"813\" height=\"813\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>The 12V7AH battery is shown below<\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" title=\"12V7AH-1.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.innersecurity.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/12V7AH-1.jpg\" alt=\"12V7AH-1.jpg\" width=\"427\" height=\"427\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>While not all alarm panels look like the picture below, the battery replacement instructions are pretty much the same.\u00a0 Open the alarm panel and you will see the battery located on the bottom of the enclosure.
